Kishore, Chennai

Fighting Cancer to Stay in School

Sixth-grader Kishore Kumar has been struggling to go to school this academic year. His parents’ financial difficulties were not the reason for the boy to miss classes. Recently, the 12-year-old boy living in Chromepet, Chennai, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a type of blood cancer that affects the lymphatic system. The parents were devastated on receiving the news. Even though they did not have much, they had enrolled Kishore in a private school in the hope he would do well later in life. Kishore’s father, Murugan works in a private company earning INR 22,000 a month. The boy’s mother is a homemaker. Through the boy’s doctor, the parents approached Hope Unlimited for support. Hope Unlimited has given Kishore a scholarship to ensure he stayed in school while receiving treatment.
