V. Nisha from Chennai

'I want to make my parents proud'

Nisha V is a Grade 9 student from Chennai. She is a first-generation student with both her parents being illiterate. The difference though is that her father offers little support to his children’s education. Her mother Bhavani, on the other hand, is keen that her son and daughter get educated. However, her monthly income of INR 6,000 earned as a domestic helper is barely enough to feed the family. Nisha studies in a private school and is ambitious. She dreams of becoming a doctor and ‘making her parents proud’. Hope Unlimited has paid her school fee for this year so Nisha can focus on finishing school and chasing her dream.
