Monisri is a five-month-old girl born with a congenital heart defect with an abnormal opening between the aorta and pulmonary artery that did not close naturally after birth. The girl’s parents, who are from Arundavapuram village in Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, are agricultural workers earning around INR 5,000 a month. Monisri required a minimally invasive procedure that would close the opening known as Patent Ductus Arteriosus. The hospital in Thanjavur approached Hope Unlimited for financial assistance and the Trust paid for the procedure.
